What it is

Okta is enterprise identity: single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and a central directory so your staff log in to every app with one secured identity. Okta for Good donates 50 free Workforce Identity licenses to eligible nonprofits - covering SSO, MFA, Universal Directory, and light Identity Governance - plus 50% off additional Workforce licenses and 50% off Customer Identity and Auth0 plans.

The honest math

Fifty free licenses is a substantial donation, and for a security-conscious organization with many staff and many applications, centralizing identity behind SSO and enforced MFA is a genuine security upgrade. The 50% Auth0 discount matters only if you are a nonprofit that ships software with its own user logins.

Why the amber rating

For the small nonprofits this site is written for, Okta is usually more than you need. Standing up SSO across your apps takes technical capacity and ongoing administration, and if your team already gets MFA through Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, the marginal benefit is small. The rating is about fit: the offer is generous, but the setup and management overhead only pays off past a certain size and complexity.

How eligibility works

Eligibility is validated through Goodstack. Note the exclusions: hospitals and healthcare, schools and education, and government entities are ineligible.

The honest take

A strong donation for a mid-sized, security-mature nonprofit with in-house IT, and overkill for a lean team that just needs everyone on MFA. Claim it if you have the capacity to run it; otherwise your identity is probably already handled by your email suite.
