What it is
TechSoup is a nonprofit that acts as the distribution channel for technology donation programs. Through it, eligible organizations get donated or steeply discounted licenses for products like Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, and dozens of others, paying only a small administrative fee rather than retail price.
Why it matters
TechSoup is often the cheapest legitimate route to the paid tools you cannot get free elsewhere. It is also a validation authority: many vendors accept a TechSoup validation token as proof of your nonprofit status, so registering once can speed up other applications.
The honest take
There is no downside to registering. The administrative fees are real but small, and the catalog is broad. The main friction is that the interface is dated and the donation limits (for example, how many Microsoft licenses per year) can be restrictive for larger teams. For a small nonprofit, it is a clear yes.
